About the Film
REGULUS: THE FIRST NUCLEAR MISSILE SUBMARINES is a documentary video about the development and deployment of the Regulus missile and the Regulus submarines. Featuring never-seen-before and recently declassified footage, the documentary also contains interviews with Navy veterans, test pilots, and historian David Stumpf, Ph.D. Regulus tells the nearly forgotten story of the Navy's struggle to build a submarine launched guided missile in the post-WWII era, and the result: the SSGs, the Regulus guided missile submarines.
Much of the footage in the film has never been seen before by the public, and in many cases had to be declassified so that it could appear in the film. Regulus presents an extremely rare, inside look at the birth of a whole new weapons system, and an entire era in military science.
When Can I See Regulus on Television?
Currently, Regulus is airing on Discovery Channel Europe and in Canada. Our production team is in the process of submitting the finished film to interested parties in the United States, and we hope to be announcing a domestic airdate soon.

What is the Story on the DVD?
The DVD is an enhanced version of the film, and contains many data cards, fact sheets and nearly 20 minutes of additional video footage. Visit the main page to find out more details.
Where did the materials seen in the film come from?
Most of the footage featured in the film was made available through the Freedom of Information Act. A large portion of it was provided to the filmmakers by Loral-Vought, the company which acquired the Chance-Vought name. Some came from a "lost" military archive, and still more came from Regulus-era veterans who provided home movie and other footage.
In the last few years, the filmmakers have acquired a large archive of 16mm films of the Silent Service, made in the era 1941-1970. These films are now available for use by other documentarians, and for commercial use.
What was the impetus for making the film?
Dr. David Stumpf, author of "Regulus: The Forgotten Weapon", inspired the creation of the film. He served as a consultant on the project.
